Community Mapping

Community Mapping is an innovative approach that brings community members, local leaders, and key actors together to identify and map the strengths, challenges and aspirations of the community. We work with community partners in the design and facilitation of the mapping process to create an inclusive and fun environment, drawing on creative arts-based methods and storytelling to better understand and capture peoples lived experiences and relationships to place. Community mapping can be used in a variety of contexts such as regional planning and development, disaster preparedness and response, environmental monitoring, accessibility and more.

Digital Mapping and GIS

We work with partners to create innovative, participatory, and visually engaging digital mapping products. Our projects include developing web mapping portals for hosting and sharing data, creating web mapping tools to assist with land use planning and decision-making, designing story maps to bring our partner's data to life in engaging ways, and training partners in developing and using web and mobile data collection tools. We work with an array of software programs, from ArcGIS Online/ArcPro to QGIS, Google Maps and smaller niche-based applications.

Drone Mapping

We collect and map drone-based data for an array of applications, including salmon habitat monitoring, forest inventory analysis, forest carbon and wildfire modelling, and for developing detailed maps of a variety of landscapes. We have the resources for collecting high resolution images and video, LiDAR, and thermal data, and provide a range options for analyzing these data for creating custom outputs required by our partners. We also provide training for the use of drone technologies for environmental monitoring and analysis.

Participatory Planning

We bring expertise in participatory research and facilitation using a wide range of data collection techniques (e.g. workshops, town halls, focus groups, digital platforms, photo voice, participatory video, etc.) to encourage meaningful engagement and dialogue from community members and diverse actors. Our approach is tailored to the specific needs and characteristics of each locality, and our methodologies ensure that solutions are community-driven with a shared sense of ownership.

Program and Impact Evaluation

We have extensive experience conducting case studies and base line studies. These studies are applied in impact evaluation and monitoring of specific situations and contexts. We draw on a mix of qualitative and quantitative methodologies to better understand the impact of your company, program or initiative and work with you to share the stories in meaningful ways.
