ABOUT US
Crystal Tremblay and Chris Bone are both professors in Geography and co-directors of the Map Shop at the University of Victoria. Big Little Maps brings together their expertise in community-based research and geospatial technologies to assist communities with enhancing their capacity for social governance and environmental stewardship.

Crystal Tremblay is an Assistant Professor and the Director of CIFAL Victoria, a training arm of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), working to build capacity and knowledge co-creation in advancement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. She has an active research portfolio as a community engaged scholar with expertise in participatory action research, arts-based methods and decolonizing methodologies with a special focus on water and resource governance and livelihood enhancement

Chris Bone is an Associate Professor whose research focuses on environmental monitoring, including wildfire risk modelling, measuring forest inventory and carbon stocks, and developing geospatial tools for community-driven environmental stewardship. Chris teaches courses in GIS, and has recently developed a microcredential in mapping with drones. He has developed story maps and web mapping applications for community groups, education publication companies, and Indigenous partners.
